SPREYTON trainer Adam Trinder will most likely progress his promising two-year-old Toothless to the $100,000 Gold Sovereign Stakes in Launceston next week after he scored an emphatic win in the Silver Ingot 2YO Maiden over 1100 metres in Launceston last night.
Toothless could not have made a more impressive debut, leading all the way with Brendon McCoull aboard to score b five lengths from Wiz Bang and Udayan.
The weight of money that arrived for the gelded son of Old Deuteronomy forced the early pre-post favorite Udayan to drift alarmingly in the market.
Toothless ended up stating at $1.90 after fixed odds bookies had bet $6 early in the day.
Brendon McCoull gave the gelding a glowing report.
“This is a very smart two-year-old that will obviously win more races,” McCoull said.
“He gave me a really good feel tonight and he did a lot of things right – He’s a very nice horse,” he said.
Trinder hinted he would give the horse a chance at the Gold Sovereign next week.
“It’s worth giving him a crack at the Gold Sovereign because he was impressive tonight and he would not b out of lace in that ace.”
“We will see how he pulls of from this run but I would be surprised if he didn’t go home and leave his feed bin dry,” Trinder said.
However McCoull said he would not swap his Gold Sovereign ride aboard Admiral for any other runner in the race, so Trinder confirmed Robert Thompson would have the sit on Toothless in the Listed race over 1200 metres.
