LIGHTLY raced three-year-old filly Top End Of Town returned to racing in style at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today with an emphatic win in the Primeplan Securities 3YO & Upwards Maiden Plate over 1100 metres.
Top End Of Town ($3.70) was resuming from an eight-month spell but made light of the task to score by a convincing margin over race favourite Memo ($3.50) and Cinnamona ($6.40).
The filly was well ridden by David Pires and was backed in from about $5.00 to start the second favourite and probably would have started the popular elect had there been another minute of betting.
Trainer Michael Voss was upbeat about the filly’s prospects, claiming he thought she had above average ability from day one.
One of Top End Of Town’s part-owners Michael Bowerman said he named the filly based on her being by Danerich from the Canny Lad mare She’s Astute with the rich and astute parts suggesting she would be at home in the top end of town.
