TRAINER Ben Yole is confident his well travelled seven –year-old Topwestern has more wins in him after the gelding delivered a courageous performance to win a C4-C6 race over 2090 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Sunday night.
Topwestern showed great determination in the home straight to hold out the heavily backed favourite Capricorn Cruiser that looked set to win 100 metres from the line.
It was the gelding’s first outing for the new season but the last of his long campaign that included an unsuccessful trip to Victoria.
Topwestern was competitive in Melbourne but his best finish was a fourth despite producing mile rates ranging from 1m.53 to 1m.55.
Last Sunday night he was well driven by Mark Yole, the trainer’s younger brother, who was patient and prepared to wait until the death knock to ask the gelded son of Totally Western for the supreme effort in the straight.
