AFTER having to postpone the bulk of the Hobart Cup meeting due to unprecedented weather conditions on Sunday, the Tasmanian Racing Club will open its gates for the rescheduled six races on Friday with the hope of attracting a big crowd.

Club CEO Mike Wisby said everyone will benefit from free admission and the entire complex, barring restricted areas for licensed persons only, will be made available to the general public.

“The Members area in the main grandstand will be available to everyone and dress codes have been relaxed,” Wisby said.

“The response from the public so far has been amazing and while we are expecting a good crowd to come along and enjoy the six races including the Hobart Cup it might be a bit of a catering nightmare.”

“We are hoping anyone wanting to dine in the Terrace View Restaurant on Friday will make a booking (03 6272 9492) that will give us some chance of getting it right.”

“We just want to make sure nobody leaves disappointed.”

“There are no package bookings, just a versatile menu with dishes ranging in price from $15 to $25,” he said.

The club has had inquiries from people expressing interest in booking a leger car space but Wisby explained why they won’t be available.

“For a start there will be no big screens available in the leger area and the PA system will bot broadcast in the area.”

“If anyone wants to make it a picnic affair they should come along and set up on the main lawn area in front of the old grandstand,” he said.

The first race will start at 4.39 pm and the last at 7.35 pm with the Betfair Hobart Cup to be run as race five at 7.05 pm.
