SPREYTON trainer Barry Campbell predicted a bright future for his four-year-old Treasury Bond after he scored an impressive win on debut at Spreyton three weeks ago.
So it came as no surprise to Campbell that the gelding delivered another impressive performance in a class one handicap at Spreyton yesterday to keep his unbeaten record intact.
With last season’s leading apprentice Ismail Toker aboard, Treasure Bond settled fourth behind a hot speed set by Purrsnickity and Leigh John who shared the lead to the home turn.
When Toker eased Treasury Bond three-wide to challenge at the top of the straight the gelded son of Churchill Downs pounced on the leaders and quickly out the end result beyond doubt.
Treasury Bond hit the line with 1-1/2 lengths to spare over the fast-finishing Gloray (Raquel Clark) that came from last on the run with Leigh John battling on for third ahead of Ain’t The Whisky.
“This is a nice horse that has gone from showing us nothing in his first preparation to a nice prospect that ism unbeaten from two starts,” Campbell said.
“When he first arrived at the stables he was a big, dumb bugger who had no idea.”
“He was never going to be a three-year-old and he took so long to come to hand that he didn’t even race at three.”
“But that’s all behind him and if the owners are agreeable I’ll tip him out for a spell and bring him back for the decent races over Christmas-New Year,” Campbell said.
Treasury Bond is owned and raced by the Woodlawn Park Stud syndicate that also bred the gelding.
It was the second leg of a winning double for Campbell who also saddled up well-bred filly Marie Clare (Reward For Effort-Shallot) who scored an impressive all-the-way win in the Simons Design Centre Maiden over 1150 metres.
