SPREYTON trainer Adam Trinder is enjoying his best season since gaining his licence about four years ago and while he never set out to win this season’s trainer’s premiership it looms as a possibility with nine meetings remaining.
Reigning premier Scott Brunton leads the table with 47-1/2 wins while Trinder sits second with 40 and John Blacker also is in the hunt with 38-1/2 winners.
At Spreyton on Sunday Trinder gets the chance to narrow the margin with five genuine winning chances on the eight-event card while Brunton will not have a runner at the meeting.
Trinder will saddle up Shlingas in the second race, a maiden/class one over 1880m and he only needs to improve slightly on what he showed last start to be a winning chance.
“We plan to be more aggressive early with Shlingas and hopefully that will be enough for him to be a winning hope,” Trinder said.
Appassionata is a former Victorian lining up for his first Tasmania start and comes off a fourth at Cranbourne three weeks ago.
“Appassionata has arrived in great shape and after watching his last start effort at Cranbourne I’m confident he will be very competitive on Sunday,” he said.
Big Time resumes in the BM82 over 1350m and while he will be better when he gets out over more ground he usually goes well fresh and this is a good race to start his campaign but last start winner Sound Bar looms as one of Trinder’s best bets on the eight-event card.
Sound Bar rattled home to score impressively in a BM82 Handicap over 1150 metres and while he steps up in distance and will carry an extra two kilograms he still looms as the likely winner.
Himation, Serengeti Miss and Sid The Sloth all line up in the Class two over 1350m with Himation the likely favourite of that trio as he is third-up and should be ready to win.
Koutoufides is a winner two starts back and he gets his chance to win again in the BM72 over 1880m (race 6).
Just Mouse will represent the stable in the BM62 over 1150m (race 7) and should make an impact at the business end of proceedings.
“I was more than pleased with Just Mouse’s effort last start to win and she hasn’t gone backwards wince that run,” Trinder said.
Trinder also is expecting his talented four-year-old Seven Falls to make an impact at his first start for five months.
Seven Falls will line up in the benchmark 72 handicap over 1000 metres which is the last on the program.
The gelding is a winner of two recent trials, the latest at Longford last Friday where he defeated Sister Quest and Flash Al Moon on a heavy track.
“Seven Falls wasn’t all that comfortable on the heavy track at Longford but he still won the trial so back on his home track on Sunday I expect him to be very hard to beat,” Trinder said.
