Trainer Adam Trinder made it a feature race double in Launceston on Wednesday night when his promising two-year-old Miss Charlie Brown made an impressive debut to win the $30,000 Alfa Bowl over 1100 metres and well-bred filly Vivilici delivered a career-best effort to win the $50,000 3YO Trophy over 1400 metres.
Miss Charlie Brown (Myboycharlie-Red Fever) drew the outside barrier (7) and rider Bulent Muhcu obeyed riding instructions and allowed her to drift back to the rear while the speedy Neutralize ($3.70) set a hot tempo with the favourite Geegee Lucky Jess ($2.10) second with the winner’s stablemate Mystical Vixen ($3.70) third behind the leader.
Trinder said he thought the outside barrier was too big a disadvantage for the filly to win.
“As a rule, barriers play a great role in early two-year-old races and I was gutted when I saw this filly had drawn the outside gate, but Bulent (Muhcu) rode her as I had asked and half-way up the home straight, I was fairly confident she would win,” Trinder said.
“The owners gave me $150,000 and asked me to go find a staying filly and we searched high and low without much luck, then we stumbled on this filly at the South Australian sales, but we had plenty of change out of the $150,000.
“I’m sure she will really excel when she gets over ground, but she will still be very good in the remaining feature two-year-old races.”
3YO Trophy
Vivilici defied a betting drift ($12 to $19) to flash home along the rails with Anthony Darmanin aboard to defeat race leader Freelancer ($16) and race favourite Warrior Prince ($2.05) also prepared by Trinder.

Vivilici came off a maiden win in Launceston but according to Darmanin she was always travelling like a winner.
“I watched this filly win her maiden and she looked good without doing anything special, but she gave me a really good feel tonight, and I have no doubt she will continue to improve as she gets over more ground,” Darmanin said.
After winning her maiden Trinder said he hoped Vivilici was an Oaks filly and last night’s win was a big step in that direction.
