SPREYTON trainer Adam Trinder will travel only three horses to the meeting at UBET Park Hobart today but he has the potential to leave the track with at least a double.
Trinder will saddle up Sun Disk in the benchmark 72 handicap over 2100 metres (race five) and he only needs to take his recent form into the race to emerge triumphant.
His other top winning hope is Made To Fly that scored an impressive win at his second start in the state on his home track at Devonport and while unlaced at his two subsequent outings she gets her chance to break back into the winner’s circle.
Sun Disk has been up for a while but Trinder was keen to bring him back for a solid winter campaign that has also included a hit and run mission to Victoria where he was placed fourth over 2000m at Ballarat.
He bounced back from that encounter with another impressive win in Hobart last start over 2100 metres in a benchmark 82 handicap in which he carried 55.5 kilograms courtesy of apprentice Boris Thornton’s two kilogram claim.
Sun Disk drops back in grade today to a benchmark 72 so he goes up significantly in weight to carry 60 kilograms with Thornton’s 2kg claim.
The opposition is weaker than he met last time but his class should shine through.
Runhardt was an impressive winner last start in much weaker grade but he showed a liking for the heavy track and he proved he is genuine at the distance so he looms as an outsider with a big chance of causing an upset.
Chances also must be given to Spotluck, Holy Cat, Dollar Dan and Kings View.
Made To Fly is a well-bred four-year-old mare sent to Trinder’s stable by Victorian trainer Mick Kent who was confident she would win races.
The mare was impressive in winning at Devonport at her second start in the state and her two subsequent outings have produced a near last at Devonport and a last-start third to Runhardt over 2100m.
Seven Falls will represent the stable in race eight (BM72) over 1200m and while his recent form would suggest he might struggle against such strong opposition he does possess above average ability and is not the roughest in a very open race.
