A PLAN to save lightly raced five-year-old Sun Disc for the wet tracks during winter has proved successful for Devonport trainer Adam Trinder.
Sun Disc scored his second win from three tries on rain affected tracks proving the owners’ theory that the gelded son of Tough Speed would excel once the rain set in.
But the bonus to come out of the Gee Gee Gorse Stud Handicap (1400m) in Hobart last Sunday that Sun Disc won was that his stablemate Vila also produced a brilliant effort to run second.
Vila was well ridden by Anthony Darmanin and was being hailed the winner until Sun Disc (Kelvin Sanderson) looked to sprout wings over the final 50 metres to get up in the last stride.
It also was one of Sanderson’s best efforts in the saddle from his four rides for the day.
Vila came Trinder’s stable from King Island and while she had great form on the island, she only had form on good tracks and that included a victory at her first start for Trinder on a good three synthetic track at Devonport late last month.
