In Brief
- Trojan Storm defeated Mystic Journey in trial earlier this month.
- Trainer says Trojan Storm has done well since trial win.
- Plenty of speed in race helps Trojan Storm's chances.
Punters will be relying on trial form being a good guide if they are to invest on Trojan Storm in the last race on the eight-event card in Launceston which was moved from Wednesday to Saturday.
Trojan Storm has the distinction of having defeated star Tasmanian mare Mystic Journey in a 900-metre trial in Hobart earlier this month and while it was the mare’s first hit-out for five months it was a decisive win.
The gelding’s trainer Cameron Thompson is upbeat about his chances of emerging triumphant in the benchmark 66 handicap over 1100 metres.
“There’s plenty of speed in the race and that could lay into my horses hands,” Thompson said.
“There will be a nice bit of speed in the race and he should be able to get a nice sit and hopefully be too strong at the finish.
“My horse will finish hard and he is extremely honest.”
Trojan Storm will be ridden by Thompson’s stable apprentice Brandon Louis who recently arrived in the state after a couple of stints in Western Australia.
The Mauritius-born rider has seven rides at the meetings with his other for Thomson being Beenagem.
“If Beenagem doesn’t throw her head when the gates open and jumps cleanly she will be a sneaky place chance in her race (6).”
