CONSISTENT four-year-old mare Trustey broke a recent run of outs when she recorded a hard fought win in a class one at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on Sunday over 1600 metres.

The Charlie Goggin trained mare, ridden by Brendon McCoull, was quickly urged along from barrier one, sitting in a handy position behind the leaders. McCoull eased her off the fence in the home straight and she eventually outgunned the leader Telerossi with Rayos finishing a length astern.

It was her second win since breaking through a year ago and Goggin was pleased she managed to break her drought after a series of placings and unplaced efforts.

“It’s been a while since she won her first race, but she has been threatening to win another for a while now as she has been racing consistently” Goggin said.

“Brendon (McCoull) used her up early, which he had to from the inside barrier but she battled away well.”

“She’ll win a race over a longer distance,” he said.

Ending a run of twenty starts without a win, Goggin said she looks too well to put out in the paddock. She is likely to race over more ground next start.

“She has bloomed where a lot of horses don’t in the winter. She looks really well and has a nice healthy coat” he said.

“We will be looking for further distance at her next start as her best runs have been over the 2100 metres. It was a bonus winning at the mile (1600m) but it looked to be hers from the inside barrier, the way the track was playing” Goggin said.
