In Brief
- Geegees Mistruth dominant in the Mystic Journey.
- Emotional win for connections.
- Gandy unsure of the next target.
Geegees Mistruth has stamped herself as one of the best to carry the Geegee moniker with an outstanding win in the Group 3 $150,000 Kevin Sharkie Mystic Journey Stakes (1200m) in Hobart on Friday.
Unbeaten in Tasmania and more than competitive at Group level in Victoria, Geegees Mistruth was heavily supported to start the $2 favourite and was given a peach of a ride by Anthony Darmanin, who lobbed the filly into fourth after a couple of hundred metres from barrier 10.
Geegees Mistruth joined the leaders upon straightening and put the issue beyond doubt quickly after.
Trainer Stuart Gandy is unsure where her next run will be but doubts, she will head to the Group 3 Vamos Stakes (1400m) in Launceston.
“Paul and Elizabeth (Geard) have bred a lot of horses, raced a lot of horses and supported a lot of people and they continue to do that in a reduced fashion. He (Paul) was looking down today, and she’s a really special horse,” and emotional Gandy said.
“We were confident, we don’t like to beat our chests, but she let her racing do the talking today. She’s a very good filly.”
“Full credit to the horse, she has come a long way, and to have Elizabeth and the (Geard) family here today, it will take a lot to top that.”
Darmanin was also full of praise for the filly.
“It worked out perfect (today). This horse is a serious racehorse, she’s matured and strengthened up even better this time in, she’s was never going to get beaten,” the winning rider said.
Victorian Dazzling Lucy ($7.50) made up a lot of ground to finish second but was no match for the winner, while third home was In Her Stride ($18).
