A SMALL field of four may have been a key factor in the win of Two Avenues in the Silks Restaurant Maiden over 1100 metres at The TOTE Racing centre in Launceston on Sunday.

Two Avenues, prepared at Whitemore by Graeme McCulloch, was able to find the lead and despite having the well-backed favourite Gold Eliza racing on his outside for most of the race he was able to lengthen stride and find a length break in the straight.

The three-year-old gelding went on to score by a long neck over the favourite.

The winner’s stablemate finished third and well in advance of Stella’s Rose.

McCulloch bred the first three placegetters at his Grenville Stud where he stands the winner’s sire My Lad.
