In Brief
- Two Tassie stars invited to nominate for $100,000 Group 1 Temlee event.
- Englund and Crosswell prepare six out eight runners for Rising Stars Final.
- Wynburn Sheean draws box one again following a dazzling 29.56 debut last week.
The connections of star Tasmanian greyhounds Wynburn Sheean and Sprint Gordon have been invited to nominate for the Group 1 Temlee in Melbourne next month.
The race at The Meadows on 13 February carries prizemoney of $100,000 to the winner.
Wynyard trainer Ben Englund (Wynburn Sheean) and Brighton-based Blake Pursell (Sprint Gordon) have until Friday to take up the offer and lodge their nominations with Greyhound Racing Victoria.
Sprint Gordon ran third and Wynburn Sheean fourth in last month’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Hobart Thousand won by Tommy Shelby.
Meanwhile, Ben Englund and Longford trainer David Crosswell will provide six of the eight runners in Monday night’s Buckle Up Wes Rising Stars final at the Ladbrokes Racing Centre in Launceston.
The annual age-restricted feature ranks as the primary lead-in race on the LGRC calendar to next month’s Group 2 Launceston Cup.
Both trainers prepare chasers from the highly successful Aston Dee Bee – She’s All Class litter.
The star of the litter, Wynburn Sheean, produced an outstanding Launceston debut in last week’s heats when he won in a slick 29.56 from box 1.
Again, he draws the coveted red box for the final and will start the raging hot favourite.
“Drawing the rails at his first look at Launceston was certainly a benefit,” Englund said after the heat win.
“He used his box speed and to run a quick time in testing conditions was very pleasing.”
To date the David Booth-bred litter of seven has won 48 races and $144,063 in stakes.
Wynburn Sheean has won 12 races and $52,700.
Englund will also be represented by Wizz Kev and Wynburn Express.
Crosswell’s three finalists are all well-performed litter siblings of Wynburn Sheean, Highland Chief (nine wins), Quick Joey Small (seven wins) and Highland Wonder (five wins).
Monday night’s Launceston greyhound program commences at 19.31 with all races scheduled for Sky Racing 1 and will be live streamed on TasracingTV.
