TWO of Tasmania’s top greyhound trainers Russell Watts and Ted Medhurst ended the season the best possible way when they each registered their 100th winner at the last meeting of the season at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night.

Watts was the first to notch the magical ton when Latino’s Princess scored a brilliant all-the-way win in a juvenile over 461 metres at only her third start.

Where’s Oscar was responsible for Medhurst’s 100th winner when he powered home from midfield at the top turn to score a runaway win in the Shaw Contracting grade five over 461 metres.

Both trainers returned excellent winning strike rates with Medhurst ending the season with a rate of 33 per cent while Watts’ strike rate was 25 per cent.

Mick Stringer finished with 80 wins but a huge strike rate of 37 per cent.

While Medhurst and Watts shared the honour of training the most winners in 2011 neither will win the leading trainer title as Tasmania’s best trainer is based on a point-score basis of five points for first, two for second and one for third.

The premiership was won by Anthony Bullock who prepared 85 winners but his multiple placegetters helped him accrue about 950 points while Watts was on almost 700 points.

Bullock’s winning strike rate was just over six per cent but there is no denying he is an astute mentor and a very deserving winner of the title.
