ASTUTE greyhound trainer Leigh Wood found it difficult to keep the smile off his face at Devonport today after his lightly raced dog Ukulele Swinger notched a courageous win in a grade five event over 452 metres.

Ukulele Swinger went into the race having won only once in 16 starts but he had notched eight minor lacings to help pay his way.

The son of Trendy Leigh-Crimson Doll began fairly from box two but as usual gave away a start to race leader Honest To Rod that flew the lids from box four and established a handy lead by the time they reached the top turn.

But turning for home Ukulele Swinger ($4.70) knuckled down to his task and powered home to score by 1-1/2 lengths from Honest To Rod with odds-on race favourite Superbowl ($1.50) almost a length away third.

Listen to what trainer Leigh Wood had to say about Ukulele Swinger’s latest win.
