VEETEE GUN made it two wins from as many starts when he powered home to take out a grade five event over 461 metres in Hobart last week.
The Mick Stringer-trained dog scored an impressive win on debut a week earlier but this latest effort confirmed the son of Spring Gun will be very competitive during his stay in Tasmania.
Veetee Gun began fairly from box two but once balanced he increased speed to vie for the lead with It Is Written (1) while the well-backed favourite Locknane Bill copped a check and was spat out the back.
Turning for home It Is Written kicked clear and looked set to win but when Veetee Gun knuckled down to his task he swept to the lead close to home and went on to defeat It Is Written while Locknane Bill flashed home late to grab third.
Veetee Gun was sent to Stringer about six weeks ago with the hope of fixing some of the dog’s bad habits.
The pup had developed a habit of playing up at the boxes so trainer Jason Thompson contacted Stringer and the deal was done.
Not that Stringer had to do a lot but the change of environment and the surroundings at his Mangalore property have obviously agreed with the dog.
“I really think this dog has a future. The more he races the stronger he’ll become and his habits are improving,” Stringer said.
