SEVEN Mile Beach trainer Tammy Mollross found it difficult to keep the smile off her face after her talented mare Veloce Cavallo scored a very impressive win in a class six handicap over 1400 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last Thursday night.

It was Veloce Cavallo’s second win from her only two starts this preparation and while it was only a small field of six, it was the way she dispensed with her rivals that suggested she could be in form a highly successful campaign.

“I couldn’t be happier with how this mare has returned to racing,” Mollross said.

“The main goal is the Launceston Cup but we have plenty of options along the way,”

“She was very immature last season but she still was competitive in the Launceston Cup.”

“But this time around she is more mature and if she continues to improve as I expect then the sky could be the limit,” she said.

Veloce Cavallo was well ridden by Stephen Maskiell who described the win as “effortless”.

“This is going to be this mare’s year,” Maskiell said.

“She was competitive in last season’s Launceston Cup when she was very immature but she has developed during a break.”

“She is probably one of about three horses in the state capable of being very competitive in the major cups and I would be pleased to stick with her,” he said.

Mollross said Veloce Cavallo would most likely have her next start in a 1600-mertre race in about three weeks.
