TRAINER Tammy Mollross is quietly confident her talented mare Veloce Cavallo can win at Spreyton today and take winning form into the Devonport Cup in a 10 days.
Veloce Cavallo will line up in the Sheffield Cup over 1660m today in which she will be partnered by reigning premier jockey Brendon McCoull.
The mare is undefeated from her only two starts this preparation and she is now stepping up to a more suitable distance.
“Mt mare has done ka treat since her last win and I fully expect her to be very competitive today,” Mollross said.
“I gave her a trial at Elwick on Tuesday and that should have her primed form a big effort today.”
“Obviously the Devonport Cup is her next main mission and a win here will ensure she gets a start in that race.”
“Looking ahead we have the Hobart Cup and then the Launceston Cup but at the moment we are taking things one step at a time,” she said.
Veloce Cavallo will meet some decent opposition today in the form of Trysty, Ladeto, recent all-the-way winner on the track Burugino and the speedy Krakeour, that won last start and gets in on the minimum of 54kg.
The winner gains ballot-free entry into the Devonport Cup, to be run over 1800 metres on January 5.
