WELL BRED two-year-old filly Volcanic Sky made an impressive debut at Tattersall’s Park today scoring a game win in the Book Now For The Derby Ball 2YO Maiden Plate over 940 metres.
Volcanic Sky (Kelvin Sanderson) showed good early speed to make full use of an inside draw to lead but she was pressured throughout, at first by Gee Gee Showgirl and in the straight by first-starter Streetwise Savoire.
But the John Keys-trained filly had al the answers and went on to score by three quarters-of-a-length from Streetwise Savoire with Gee Gees Showgirl two lengths away third.
It was only a small field of five but it was the way Volcanic Sky went about her business that suggests she may have a bright future.
Keys said he had hopes that Volcanic Sky could follow in the footsteps of Triple Asset that he prepared to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in Tasmania last season as well as a Magic Millions race in South Australia and another feature race in Melbourne.
Volcanic Sky (Nadeem-Fleur de L’orient) pulled up a bit proppy and Keys later advised the filly had jarred up after the race.
