Voting for the world’s richest 1600 metre race, the $5,000,000 All-Star Mile is now open with two Tasmanian horses among the 95 nominated for the race to be run at Caulfield on 14 March.

The winner of the inaugural version of the race in 2019, Adam Trinder’s star mare Mystic Journey will attempt to defend her title and the other Tasmanian representative among the nominations is the emerging Mandela Effect, trained by Scott Brunton. The five-year-old gelding was the winner of the Listed Kevin Sharkie Tasmanian Stakes over the All-Star mile distance last start.

One of the more unique races in the world, the All-Star Mile field of 15 will be made up this year of 10 horses selected by the public, and five wildcards which will be determined at the discretion of the All-Star Mile selection panel. In a change from the conditions of the 2019 race, two of the five wildcards are reserved for the winner of the Futurity and Blamey Stakes respectively.

In 2019, the then three-year-old Mystic Journey was afforded one of the three wildcard slots for the race, a decision made easier for the selection panel following her win in the Group 1 Australian Guineas in the lead-up to last year’s race.

Racing Victoria were advised yesterday of an injury setback for Mystic Journey, however provided she can overcome this and get her All-Star Mile campaign back on-track, she will again be a leading chance and she’s currently $12.00 to win the race with Ladbrokes.

Mandela Effect finally broke through for an overdue black type success last start, having previously finished second in the Sale Cup and Conquering Stakes, both at Listed level.

He defeated stablemate and the winner of over $1.1 million in career prizemoney in Hellova Street last start, and his prior win on the final day of the Flemington Melbourne Cup carnival was over Ranier who went on to win a Group 3 at his subsequent outing.

Mandela Effect possesses a blistering turn of foot and the mile looks ideal for him at this stage of his career. He will take a power of beating in the Thomas Lyons Stakes on Hobart Cup day, and the Mowbray Stakes on Launceston Cup day which would see him spot on for the All-Star Mile if he can gain a berth.
