THE Mark Ganderton-trained Wanaea makes her return to racing in Tasmania after a campaign in South Australia that netted one minor placing from three starts.
Wanaea was third over 1200 metres at Morphettville at her first start in SA, followed by a luckless fourth at Murray Bridge before finishing well down the track at Morphettville in the $100,000 SA Sprint Series final over 1210 metres at her last start in that state.
The mare will line up in race five, a benchmark 62 handicap over 1150 metres and while she will carry 60 kilograms she drops significantly in class.
She is only lightly raced having had only 11 starts form three wins and five minor placings but often a horse travels interstate and irrespective of its performances away from home they inadvertently race better upon their return.
Wanaea hasn’t won since September last year when successful in a class two handicap over 1150 metres defeating Fillout The Ticket and Royal Bluff.
Today she has drawn barrier four and while she is likely to get back in the run she has a powerful finishing burst and that is what rider Daniel Ganderton will be relying on to secure victory.
The main dangers appear to be last start winner Cuprona Road (3), Yuppony (1), Osborne (4) that is first-up from a spell and Rollinginthedeep (7) that is having his fourth run back from a spell.
