IT appears winning comes easy for Victorian-owned bitch Wandy Pam that made it successive victories with a powerful performance at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last week.
Wandy Pam made her debut in Tasmania with a sensational win in a juvenile at Devonport .
She settled midfield wearing the green vest with a place looking the best scenario on the home turn but she darted back to the rails and burst through the pack to go on and score by over a length.
Trainer Mick Stringer freshened her up after the debut run and presented her in Hobart last Thursday night.
She began well from box one but had pressure from one on her outside all the way to the top turn.
But when Wandy Pam slipped into another gear she dropped her rivals and went on to score by 2-1/4 lengths from Hifive Marsha with Coffee And Pie almost five lengths away third.
Stringer was rapt with the effort and gave her a glowing report after the race.
“It was a great effort because one came down on her very quickly after the start and to fend that off and stay balanced was a great effort,” Stringer said.
Wandy Pam slipped clear of her rivals turning for home and went on to score convincingly, clocking a time of 26.41s over the 461-metre trip.
“Given the bump she got early in the race she’s done a great job to run good time,” he said.
Wandy Pam is owned by her breeder Bill Butler who is a talented trainer in his own right in Victoria.
“I’ve had a few from Bill (Butler) and Wandy Neg was the most recent dog to come over and perform well.”
“But I think Wandy Pam might do better because she has so much raw ability and to win like she did on debut at Devonport there’s no question she has what it takes to win a lot of races,” he said.
Wandy Pam is by Velocette from one of Butler’s well-bred broodbitches Makayla Reltub (x Elite State) that won 15 and placed 10 times from 48 starts.
Wandy Pam was whelped in April 2010 and has won her juvenile in Devonport and Hobart but Stringer says he is running out of time to try and get her to win her juvenile in Launceston.
“We’ll have to forego the juvenile in Launceston but I have no doubt she will win her grade fives without much trouble,” he said.
