Punters have shown their hand early in the first race of the night in Hobart on Thursday, the Manten Construction Juvenile (461m).
Hello, trained at Richmond by Len Howard has been as much as $4.80 into $2.90 with one wagering provider to approach favouritism from her box 8 draw.
The daughter of Barcia Bale – Apache Dream was a winner at the Ladbrokes Park Elwick circuit seven days ago, recording 26.44s from box 2 over the same trip she faces this Thursday night.
Rounding out the trifecta behind Hello last week were Tah Meg and Kootenay and they are both among the opposition again this week.
Bookmakers give neither dog much hope of turning the tables with Tah Meg (box 4) a $51 chance and Kootenay (box 5) at $12.
In an interesting sub plot to the opening race, the main danger according to bookmakers is Broken Arrows (box 2) who is trained by Len Howard’s son Nick Howard.
The early $2.30 favourite, Broken Arrows is gunning for a hat-trick of wins, also a winner on last Thursday’s program where she had a winning time of 26.33s from box 7 over the 461-metre journey.
A full sister to Hello, Broken Arrows is quickly building an imposing record early in her career with seven wins from 12 starts and $14,410 in prizemoney to her credit.
Both Len and Nick Howard had winners in Devonport on Tuesday and one of those dogs will be hoping to make it two wins in the space of three days when Pretty Boy Roy steps out for Nick in the Godfrey Joinery Grade 5 (461m).
Winning from the pink box over 452m on Tuesday, Pretty Boy Roy has box 2 on Thursday night where he has placed twice from as many attempts around Hobart including a second three starts ago on 15 April.
In one of the more open races of the night, Pretty Boy Roy shares favouritism with Enchanted Spirit (box 7) and Blazer (box 8) at around the $3.50 mark with bookmakers on race morning.
