Top Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse has set her sights on the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival with two of her high profiled stable tenants.
Waterhouse will nominate her rising star three-year-old filly Teardrop Rock for the Tasmanian oaks but on the way she will contest the Betfair Hobart Guineas on the opening day of the carnival at Tattersall’s Park on Sunday week (January 23).
She also has dispatched her five-year-old mare Princess Quality for the weight-for-age $150,000 Tasbreeders Bow Mistress Stakes (1200m) to be run at Tattersall’s Park on derby Day (February 5.)
Teardrop Rock and Princess Quality have arrived in Tasmania and are being stabled at Barry Campbell’s Spreyton stables.
Waterhouse earmarked the Tasmanian races for both of them after consultation with the horses’ respective owners about three weeks ago.
Teardrop Rock (Fastnet Rock-Satin ‘N’ Silk x Zabeel) is fresh from a convincing win at Randwick last Saturday in a benchmark 73 handicap over 1800 metres which followed a courageous second to the highly promising Sincero over 1600m at Randwick on Boxing Day.
