Tasmanian Performances During The Week
Butler and Salter snare doubles in Launceston
Southern trainers Christian Salter and Mark Butler achieved training doubles at Launceston on Sunday night. Broadmarsh based Salter took full advantage of pole draws with Miss Lively and Aninchofhislife to lead throughout.
Miss Lively, a 7YO Victorian bred mare, was a late starter winning two of her first three starts as a 5YO at Globe Derby and Albury. She was unplaced in 23 subsequent Victorian starts before joining the Salter stable for two unplaced runs prior to the win on Sunday night. Salter has an excellent training strike rate this season with seven wins and six places from 19 starters.
Butler’s strike rate is also impressive. The double took his winning tally to five with three places from only 11 starters. Saab Quality (Ricky Duggan) was the first winner for the Dysart trainer when he charged down the middle to win the Claimer defeating Tisu Toota. Margin Girl (Nathan Ford) completed the double when she swooped late to win the C1 and better stand.

Beautide is favourite for the Miracle Mile
Beautide, the idol of Tasmanian harness racing, is now favourite to defend his Miracle Mile title at Menangle (NSW) on Saturday week (29 November) after a tough winning performance in the $100,000 Coca Cola Sprint (Group 1) at Menangle last Saturday.
The 7YO Bettors Delight – Gorse Bush gelding raced three and four wide early before finding the death seat around the 800 metres point. From there, Beautide had to dig deep to hold off a handy field but he responded superbly when challenged and scored by two metres from Guaranteed and Easy On The Eye.
Five of the eight spots for the $750,000 Miracle Mile have been confirmed. Beautide will compete against Avonnova, For A Reason, Christen Me and Terror To Love. The remaining three invitations will be issued after the $100,000 Cordina Chicken Sprint at Menangle on Saturday night. It is likely that Guaranteed, Suave Stuey Lombo and Bitobliss will figure prominently when the selection panel considers the last three positions.
Beautide has won 42 of his 68 races and placed another 16 times for $1,421,337 in stake money.
Tasmanians interstate
Laterron (R5 N10) will attempt to qualify for the Miracle Mile in the $100,000 Cordina Chicken Sprint at Menangle on Saturday. The 7YO Tasbred mare, which is now owned by Matthew Minton (Tas) and Darcy Bradmore (Vic), has raced well in recent weeks but faces a tough task from the wide draw in the Group 1 race.
Zeke Slater, the former owner of Laterron, is off to Melton (Victoria) on Friday night to contest $16,000 heats of a $25,000 M0 series with Giuliani (R1 N2) and Run Ripalong (R6 N9). Both are in top form and should be prominent in the heats and final.
Belliciouslips, a 4YO Tasmanian mare trained by Rodney Ashwood and driven by his son Alex, will attempt to improve on her impressive Victorian record of two wins from three starts in Race 3. at Melton.
