Tasmanian Performances During The Week

Barynya

The star Tassie filly won her semi final of the 3YO Fillies Vicbred Super Sires at Melton on Friday night. Barynya rolled straight to the front and won comfortably.

Joshua Duggan

Joshua drove a double at Bendigo on Tuesday night. His winners were Senmitas Success and Carbon Merger.

Birdy Mach

Birdy Mach rated a mention in late June when he won on debut at Menangle rating a fast 1.53.8 over 1609 meters. The two year old colt is a daughter of Pixel Perfect, the top priced yearling from the 2008 Tasmanian Premier Harness Yearling Sale. Pixel Perfect never raced and the now seven year old mare has produced four foals. Two are of racing age and both are winners. Birdy Mach had his second start at Menangle on Tuesday and retained his perfect winning record.

Tasmanian Horses at Albion Park on Saturday Night

Lilbitachicknfried and Karalta Wizard

Lilbitachicknfried is a regular Saturday night competitor and looks well placed to improve on his impressive Queensland record of two wins and a second from his last three. He is in Race 1, an $11,000 Q2/Q3, and has drawn barrier three. ‘The chicken’ is a half brother to Chopstix Boris who won the $30,000 Roberts Equine Globe Derby Final at Launceston on Sunday night for the Tasbred 3YO colts and geldings. The dam, Flo Jo Fernandez, was a Bandbox winner (3YO Tasbred Fillies) and she has produced four foals and all are winners. The other two are Hillbilly Delux and Thirsty Mach. Thirsty Mach won the Raider Stakes for 4YO Tasbred entires and geldings.

Karalta Wizard (Dream Away – No News Susie) commenced his career in Tasmania and after 77 starts went to New South Wales. After 15 starts there it was off to Queensland where he has won twice from 18 starts. Karalta Wizard has three thirds from his last five starts and is in a $16,000 C1 final – R2 N9.

Tasmanian Broodmare Owners

Somewherein Africa and Lifeline

In July 2013, Railton residents Leigh Rand, Dale Rand, Tammy Ellis and Heidi Ellis purchased the 11 year old mare Somewherein Africa. The unraced Jet Laag mare had produced three foals for two winners and both were by Village Jasper – Vansumic and Moonshinestudleigh. In March this year the value of Somewherein Africa skyrocketed when Vansumic won Australasia’s premier race for mares – the $200,000 Ladyship Mile at Menangle. Vansumic then went to Melton for some high class mares races and returned to Menangle with a win on Tuesady 24 June. Vansumic is in the same race as Delightful Christian and Laterron at Menangle on Saturday night.

In September 2012, Beaconsfield breeders Rick and Naomi Hinds purchased the 16 year old mare Lifeline. The unraced Classic Garry mare, out of the 4YO Vicbred Super Sires Final winner Larrakeyah Lady, has produced 10 foals. Nine have raced and six are winners. The youngest, a two year old filly named Lovelist, may be the best. She won her first four starts and followed up with a third in the semi final of the 2YO Vicbred Super Sires last Friday night. She has drawn barrier twelve (R9) in the $110,000 final on Saturday night at Melton.

Sunday Twilight at Hobart – Eight Races on Sky 1.

The $30,000 2YO Tasbred finals are the highlights of the eight race card.

In Race 4, the Evicus Final, nothing separates the two heat winners if times are any guide. Joan Grant (B1) won on debut rating 2.01.1 and Fawzia chalked up her third win from four starts rating 2.00.9. Safety Girl, Jokers Wild Card, Grace Campbell and Days Like This head the other winning chances in an open race.

In Race 5, the Dandy Patch Final, Jerrys Jet (N5) is looking to extend his unbeaten sequence to six. Boassen Hagen and Fioki appear to be the main danger and Isthatyoujimmy and Blackjackhanover can both place with luck in running.

Monday Night at Devonport – Eight Races on Sky 1

The first is at 6.17 and the last at 9.40.
