DAS GOOD gave Deloraine-based trainer Terry Roles his first winner in almost a year when he powered home at bolters odds to emerge triumphant in a maiden/class one over 1880 metres at Devonport today.
Das Good settled beyond midfield while Letters assumed control leaving the home straight the first time and established a commanding lead.
But when the leader started to capitulate turning for home the pack closed in and it was Das Good the emerged first to take up the running and under strong riding from Anthony Darmanin the gelding kicked clear and had enough in reserve to hold out Weekend Winner to score by a head with Decent Deal 3-1/2 lengths away third.
While Das Good had no form to recommend a winning chance he was backed in with one fixed odds operator from $101 to $16 before easing out to start at $23.
The trainer last year completed his training course to become a nurse and that is now his full-time profession with training only a hobby.
