IT’S an unforgiving trip from Devonport to Hobart on a winter Sunday morning but for trainer Leon Wells the venture was made worthwhile when his former Victorian filly Unoaked scored an impressive win in a maiden over 1100 metres at Tattersall’s Park today.
Unoaked handled the heavy ground and travelled well to the home turn where jockey Stephen Maskiell aimed her towards the outside fence in the home straight.
The move proved to be a winning one as she enjoyed the better going and went on to score by just under a length from first-starter Tough Customer.
Unoaked (Darci Brahma-Oak Vintage) is one of two horses the trainer’s son Trent Wells, who is a jumps jockey in Victoria, recommended be sent to Tasmania to race. The other one, Key to the Nile, was a close-up second at Spreyton last week.
Maskiell said the filly performed well and had a bright future in Tasmania.
