Buckle Up Wes lost no admirers when he finished a game second to outstanding young Queensland dog Flash Reality in the Group 1 Winter Carnival Cup at Albion Park in Queensland last night.

After leading all the way to win his heat a week earlier Buckle Up Wes was sent out the third elect at $5 from box four while the Darren McDonald trained Awesome Project $1.85 carried the weight of punters’ money from box one while Flash Reality was second favourite at $3.20.

Buckle Up Wes led and had the hearts of all Tasmanians pounding hard at the first turn but the Queensland Derby winner cruised past the Tasmanian and set up a three-length break.

To Buckle Up Wes’ credit he reduced the margin and finished on the heels of the winner collecting $20,000 for second.

Medhurst was full of praise for his kennel star and he will no doubt be aiming Wes at firstly the Tasmanian Sprint Championship in Launceston and if successful on to Perth to represent Tasmania in the Group One National Sprint Title.
