BRIGHTON trainer Gary White says he’ll shoot for the stars with his promising two-year-old Colonial Gold after the gelding scored a very impressive win in a Maiden Plate over 1400 metres on the Derwent Track (inside grass) at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart yesterday (Sunday).
Colonial Gold (Kelvin Sanderson) settled just behind the leaders but hugged the rail to the home turn where Sanderson urged his charge to extend and take the lead as they entered the home straight.
The gelded son of Promontory Gold-Lady Jill let down well and powered home to score comfortably from Laduka and race leader Kyev News.
Colonial Gold Only had one start last preparation and that was in late March when an eye-catching third behind the highly promising Bionic Star.
He resumed with an ordinary eighth but followed up with an encouraging fourth.
