In Brief

  • Willie Falls consistent without winning.
  • Amy Cora makes the trip north.
  • Leica Prayer and Ned Isakoff do battle again.

Willie Falls has proven to be a bit of an enigma for punters during his 13 start career, winning on just one occasion.

But with another 10 placings under his belt the son of Fabregas and Stayers Inn has more than paid his way and looms as a great winning chance Tuesday in Devonport.

Last Tuesday, the Josh Wright-trained galloper ran a fantastic second to Splotched over the 452 metres, beaten a neck in a tidy 26.19.

And if he runs up to that performance in race three Tuesday from box eight, the well-bred chaser looks a fantastic chance of claiming a much overdue second career victory.

Early markets have Willie Falls the $2.45 second favourite behind litter sister Stay Baroque at $1.75, the Ted Medhurst-trained sprinter scoring in Hobart last Thursday over 340 metres in a slick 19.54.

Having her first start since the COVID-19 shutdown, Stay Baroque looked in fine touch on that occasion, turning in a performance that sees her a deserved favourite for this afternoon’s clash.

10 races are programmed for decision Tuesday in Devonport with the highlight Amy Cora’s appearance in race five.

Winner at 10 of her 13 career starts, Amy Cora has drawn box one and has been installed a near unbackable $1.10 favourite with bookmakers.

In race seven, Leica Prayer and Ned Isakoff face off in the fast class event for the second week running over 452 metres.

Last Tuesday, Leica Prayer, runner-up in the Group 3 Devonport Chase last December, finished strongly to down leader Ned Isakoff in a sharp 25.79.

On the strength of that performance and with the aid of box one, Lecia Prayer will go around an odds-on favourite for today’s assignment.

It’s a race which also includes grand bitch Hello Rhonda, last year’s Launceston Cup winner making a winning return last Monday over the 278 metres in brisk fashion.

The scene is set for a great afternoon’s racing with the first to go at 12.07pm.
