BRIDPORT harness trainer Grant Hodges is quietly confident his former NSW four-year-old can remain unbeaten despite jumping in grade at the UBET Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.
Wingatui Dew has won his only three starts in Tasmania and they have all been impressive with the latest by almost 12 metres in a strong C1 event in Launceston two weeks ago.
“He is a very progressive type and we don’t really know how deep the well is,” Hodges said.
“He goes up significantly in grade on Sunday but he should only need to do what he did last start to be very hard to beat,” he said.
Wingatui Dew won only one race in NSW last season from 14 starts but he also snared eight minor placings with most of his starts on the spacious Menangle track where he registered a mile rate of 1.53.6 in winning a 3YO event over 1609 metres in May last year.
Hodges also expects Lucky Dave to be hard to beat if he leads from gate one in the last race on the eight-event card.
