WINKLEE TIP is not the most gifted member of a litter bred by Exeter trainer-breeder Ted Howard but he might be the smartest.

In Hobart last week Wynburn Loco notched his second win from eight starts courtesy of missing some serious interference that put half the field out of contention nearing the top turn.

Winklee Tip copped a bit of the backlash from tightening at the 340-metre boxes but it was his clever track sense that guided him to a clear path up the home straight.

The tearaway leader Half Century looked home but when he appeared to pull up losing all momentum, the pack closed in and it was Winklee Tip that chose the clearest path to the line.

So powerfully did he finish that he hit the line almost three lengths clear of Arnhem Rogue with Tricky Abbey a half-head away third and just ahead of Half Century that came again over the concluding stages.

Winklee Tip (Cosmic Rumble-Winklee Weeper) has won two of eight with four minor placings so he is definitely paying his way.
