WELL bred filly Wise Investment earned a chance at some big prize money when she scored an emphatic win in the Cascade Draught 3YO and Upwards Maiden over 1400 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on Wednesday night.
The filly’s trainer Michael Voss confirmed she would tackle the $50,000 Jackson Motor Company 3YO Cup over 1200m in Launceston next Wednesday night.
Wise Investment was well placed in the run by in-form apprentice Siggy Carr who had her settled near the rear but under a good hold at the 600-metre peg.
But when she decided to let the filly improve she sped around the field and was poised to pounce on the home turn.
Once balanced in the home straight she powered to the lead and went on to score comfortably from Piccadilly Dancer with Rattle ’N’ Battle a close-up third.
It was Wise Investment’s seventh start but she had shown ability at four of those outings of which two resulted in minor placings.
“We’ve had a few issues to content with and she has had some horrendous bad luck in races but it all came together tonight,” Voss said
“We’ll have a crack at the 3YO Cup – she deserves the chance in a big race,” he said.
Wise Investment is by Written Tycoon from the Canny Lad mare She’s Astute.
The odds-on favourite Keukenhof was unplaced, finishing sixth and about 7-1/2 lengths from the winner.
He was ridden by Brendon McCoull who said the Troy Blacker-trained gelding laid in for much of the race and suggested he might be better off wearing a set of blinkers next time he steps out.
