Last start Gold Collar winner Wynburn Lethal has been installed a red hot $1.55 favourite for the first of two Tasbred Bonus heats (461m) in Hobart tonight.
Blessed with searing early speed, the daughter of Dyna Double One and Wynburn Arrow makes her Hobart debut in the second event on tonight from box two for trainer Ben Englund, her previous seven appearances all in Devonport and Launceston.
“She always showed a lot of box speed early on and she’s really starting to put it all together now,” Englund said.
“If anything the slight negative is that it’s her first race start at Hobart; she’s had just the one trial there.
“The draw looks nice and her brother Wynburn Redson drawn outside her won’t be an issue, he’ll come out a length behind her.”
Winning both her heat and final of the Gold Collar series in Launceston in 30.02, the form around the smart youngster has been more than solidified in the past week, with Yellow Knife and Telfer, runner-up to Wynburn Lethal at her past two starts, each victorious at their most recent outings.
While Wynburn Lethal has a vice-like grip on betting, and rightly so, second elect in the market is the Ted Medhurst-trained Pretty Fab, the consistent chaser considered a $3.10 chance in early markets.
“I thought the market would have them a little closer together,” Englund added.
“Ted’s dog (Pretty Fab) has the home track advantage.”
Pretty Fab, a daughter of Fabregas, comes into the race off two seconds, including in Devonport on Tuesday behind the unbeaten Tone Deaf.
The second heat tonight sees the Debbie Cannan-trained Logo go around favourite, the well-bred daughter of Thirty Talks backing up after a massive 9 ¼ length win in Devonport on Tuesday in 25.97.
Winner at two of her three starts, the impressive youngster – not two until next April – looks clearly the one to beat in the third event tonight.
Englund is represented in the second heat by Wynburn Gold, giving her a good each-way chance.
“She’s still figuring it all out but she’s coming along,” Englund said.
“She’s trialling well and she should have won last start at Launceston after taking the wrong run turning for home. She’s had the one Hobart trial as well … she hasn’t had a lot of luck of late.”
The best bet tonight program looks to roll around in race four where the Eileen Thomas-trained Bound For Blue lines up from box eight.
The daughter of Bekim Bale steps back up to the 461 metre journey for Thomas on Thursday night off two slashing short-course wins, the most recent of those in Launceston over the 278 metres, running 16.09.
From the box eight draw on Thursday, the three-time winner looks ideally placed in juvenile grade, where she’s been installed deep into the red at $1.40.
The final event in Hobart tonight sees grand campaigner Bobby Bound line up for his 140th start.
Trained by Robin Stocks, the 29-time winner has been priced a $6.50 chance early doors and as always, looks sure to give backers a great run for their money.
In a wide open final event to the program I’m A Dominator (box four) and Fernie (box seven) are considered the other key chances.
