In Brief
- Time honoured Illingworth Classic to be run Monday.
- Wynburn Lethal was ultra impressive in heat win.
- Ryan and Howard kennels well represented in tonight's feature.
A big week of greyhound racing commences in Launceston on Monday night and Wynyard trainer Ben Englund hopes he and his exciting greyhound Wynburn Lethal can play a huge part in two of this week’s features.
The Ladbrokes Illingworth Classic is Monday’s feature event where Wynburn Lethal has drawn box eight in the $14,145 to-the-winner-final over 515 metres.
Then on Thursday the Dyna Double One – Wynburn Arrow bitch has drawn box seven in the Ladbrokes Tasmanian State Sprint Championship over 461 metres.
Heats of the Illingworth Classic were held last Monday night where Wynburn Lethal began from box two and was able to hold out Winklee Hugo in the run to the first turn to go on and win by six lengths in the best time of the night in 29.70s.
The second heat was taken out by Winklee Casey who began well to lead before being headed down the back straight but close to the line Dashing George marred the running of Highland Wonder and Ava Wine, and while that was happening in the shadows of the post Winklee Casey was able to get through along the inside to score in an action-packed heat in 29.92s.
Punters have installed Wynburn Lethal as the $1.95 favourite for tonight’s event, they’re hopeful the bitch can continue on her winning way and make it five wins in a row, as is her trainer Ben Englund.
“She can’t do much more than what she has been doing I guess, she has been putting herself into the races by beginning well and hopefully she can continue doing that over her next few starts,” said Englund who is concerned about the pink box.
“It is the hardest box to win from in Launceston there is no doubt about that. She is going to have to do everything right and get a bit of luck in running I reckon, there is quite a bit of early pace in that race,” explained the young trainer who would love to win an Illingworth Classic.
“I think there are many winning chances. Ted Howard has Winklee Hugo and Winklee Casey who can both go well early and put themselves into the race and then you have got Ava Wine who you can’t ignore either,” they are just some of the names Englund named as the main dangers tonight.
On Thursday night in Hobart Wynburn Lethal lines up in the Ladbrokes Tasmanian State Sprint Championship, where the winner secures a spot in the semi-finals of the Million Dollar Chase at Wentworth Park in Sydney which will be held in October.
Wynburn Lethal has drawn box seven, but Amy Cora has drawn outside her in box eight.
“I don’t think the draw is too much of a concern for her in Hobart,” said Englund.
“The main concern I have is that Amy Cora has the eight, which will suit her down to the ground and she will be awfully hard to beat. You have also got Sibera and Connected in the race as well,” explained the trainer.
Monday’s meeting in Launceston commences at 19:23 with the Ladbrokes Illingworth Classic at 21:27.
There have been some minor time adjustments throughout the night to accommodate a transferred harness race meeting interstate.
All race will be shown on Sky Racing 1 and TasracingTV.
