In Brief

  • Englund strikes in Gold Collar Final.
  • Wynburn Arrow's first litter up and running.
  • New owners taste classic success.

Wynyard trainer Ben Englund unleashed a successful ‘lethal’ assault on Monday night’s Simon’s Carpet One Gold Collar Final at the Ladbrokes Racing Centre in Launceston.

Wynburn Lethal, the fastest heat winner of the series, replicated her 30.02-second performance in the final with a powerful all the way victory over the 515-metre trip, proving too strong for Yellow Knife and Telfer.

“It was a great thrill for the family for her to salute in the fashion she did, Wynburn Lethal is owned by my sister Leah and her partner Matt Carrolan, the industry needs new owners so it’s been a great start for them and hopefully their early success in such a classic event may encourage others to become involved,” said Ben.

“Wynburn Lethal won from the red box in her heat running 4.99 seconds to the first peg and again was able to lead from box five in the final, she is by Dyna Double One from Wynburn Arrow and has now won three of her seven starts and has shown that she can dig  deep when the pressure is applied so we hold high hopes for her going forward.”

Dyna Double One accumulated over a million dollars in stakemoney throughout his outstanding racing career highlighted by Group 1 victories in the Australian and Melbourne Cups, the Rookie Rebel and the Brisbane Cup while Wynburn Arrow raced 18 times for seven wins and has thrown a smart litter at her first attempt as a matron.

“The litter of six have all shown promise so we are looking to head to the Tasbred Bonus Series in Hobart on Barry Heawood Hobart Thousand Prelude night,” Englund suggested.

“There is a smorgasbord of exciting racing ahead of the industry in the coming weeks with ‘The Chase’ at Devonport and the ‘Hobart Thousand’ and I’m looking forward to seeing high-quality chasers like Peco Can and Stop Line on the big stage.”
