CORPORATE bookmakers are predicting NSW galloper Youthful Jack to make a clean sweep of the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival weight-for-age races by keeping his unbeaten record in the state intact at The TOTE Racing Centre tonight (Wednesday, February 22).

Betasport has Youthful Jack installed as the $2.85 favourite to win tonight’s Tatt’s Group George Adams Plate over 1600m.

The Adam Trinder-trained gelding has already won the thetote.com.au Stakes (1200m) in Launceston and the Thomas Lyons over 1400 metres in Hobart at his only two outings in Tasmania.

Youthful Jack suffered a respiratory problem about 2-1/2 years ago and it has only been in the past three months that the gelding has started to recapture the form that at one stage early in his career had him considered a genuine (2YO) Golden Slipper prospect.

He went on to win Listed races and a Group race at three before suffering the throat problem.

He has never won at 1600 metres but given he will be racing against most of the horses he made look ordinary in the Thomas Lyons fixed odds operators are not prepared to take a risk.

Life To The Full ran third to Youthful Jack in the Thomas Lyons but he is right at home over 1600m and looms as a value each-way prospect at $9 while the much improved Rave Night has been second to Youthful Jack at his past two outings but as he also is suspect at 1600m he is being served up at $12 and $3.40 the place which, on face value, is a remarkable price.
