SPREYTON trainer Mark Ganderton is hoping his well bred two-year-old Zada Princess can make a winning debut in next week’s Alfa Bowl at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston.
And after watching the filly (Gonski-Pericardium) win a trial at Mowbray last Thursday Ganderton has every reason to be optimistic about her chances of saluting at her first assignment.
With heavyweight jockey Michael Guthrie aboard, Zada Princess showed impeccable manners and a good turn of foot when called on to sprint over the final 300 metres of the 800-metre trial.
It was a four-horse trial with Zada Princess emerging triumphant over Sheza Fatty Boomba (Incumbent-Pia Boomba) with the Bill Ryan-trained pair Chinese Medicine and Dance Till Dawn a distant third and fourth respectively.
Zada Princess began fairly but mustered speed quickly to share the lead and raced wide throughout, albeit in the better going on a slow racing surface.
Rider Mick Guthrie was impressed with the filly’s effort at what was her third trial, having placed second at her previous two trials
